Fresh cases of COVID-19 in Tokyo continued to drop Sept. 4, marking the 13th straight day for the daily tally to go below the figure of the same day of the previous week. However, 15 fatalities from COVID-19 were reported, including a 40-something individual and two people in their 50s.
Latest cases of infection in the capital came to 2,362, down 1,219 from the previous Saturday, metropolitan government officials said.
The daily average of new cases for the week ending Sept. 4 was 2,724.7, or 68.6 percent of the figure of the previous week.
Officials said 267 patients had symptoms serious enough to require the use of a ventilator or other equipment to breathe. The figure was a decrease of 11 from the previous day.
Among the latest cases, 639 patients were in their 20s, 472 in their 30s, 351 in their 40s and 271 in their 50s. Officials said 141 patients were aged 65 or older.
